Michael B. Jordan officially has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and his friends and collaborators were there to celebrate by his side. Jordan received his star on March 1, and at the ceremony, Jordan’s «Creed III» costar Jonathan Majors, as well as Ryan Coogler, who directed the original «Creed,» spoke in honor of the achievement.
In his speech, Coogler recalled meeting up with Jordan for the first time before casting him in 2013’s «Fruitvale Station.» «We met at a Starbucks not too far from Universal Studios . . . We sat down right there in the lobby, and we talked about our families, about our hopes, our dreams, why he got into the business,» he said. «I remember thinking, ‘Man, I hope this dude wants to do this movie, because it feels like he’s going places, man.’ I realized that he hadn’t been a lead on a television show or in a movie yet, and I said, ‘Man, we got to change that.’ But I had no idea how much we would have a chance to change that.»
Coogler also directed Jordan in «Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,» and in his speech, he said he felt that Jordan’s «Black Panther» costar Chadwick Boseman — who died from colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43 — was «smiling on us right now.» He ended with a tribute to how far Jordan has come. «It’s been a ride of a lifetime . . . watching him blossom,» Coogler said. «From Newark, NJ, bro, to walking in front of driving cars to having your name on this street, bro, godd*mn!’
Majors also praised Jordan’s massive achievements in his speech. «Michael, to me, represents a mythical character. I don’t think it’s an act of luck or an act of chance that so many people see him as Adonis [and] that he was cast as Adonis,» the «Creed III» star said, referring to Jordan’s role as Adonis Creed in the franchise. «I’m extremely honored to call you my friend . . . No man on the planet deserves it more. I love you to the moon and back.»
Later, Jordan told Entertainment Tonight just how meaningful the honor was. «I didn’t think it would hit me this much, but as it all started to come together and we start to see it and reality starts to set in, the importance [and] the weight of the moment . . . you really realize it,» he said. He also said that if he could say anything to his younger self, it’d be this: «Stay optimistic, stay faithful, stay true to yourself [and] always keep a full, kind heart. The universe will make your wildest dreams come true.»
«Creed III,» which Jordan stars in and directed, premieres on March 3. Watch Jordan’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony above.
