Family comes first. On the March 15 episode of «The Masked Singer,» Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin made one of his first major appearances since his cardiac arrest back in January. During the show’s «Sesame Street» night, the 24-year-old NFL player surprised the entire audience when he joined his younger brother Damir Hamlin on stage.
One of the judges, actor Ken Jeong, seemed especially excited by Damar’s appearance, jumping up and down as soon as his name flashed across the screen. «I’m just so glad you’re here, but more importantly, I’m just so glad you’re healthy,» Jeong said. «The whole world loves you!»
Prior to the surprise appearance, the show opened with a rendition of BTS’s «Dynamite,» performed by various «Sesame Street» characters. Damir then sat on the stoop with Elmo, having a short conversation before revealing that he had brought his older brother with him.
When asked why he decided to come on «The Masked Singer» in the first place, Damar gave most of the credit to Damir. «That’s my world,» he said. «I put family first, and he loves ‘Sesame Street’ more than most things, so we had to make it tonight.»
On Jan. 2, Damar collapsed on the football field in the middle of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, suffering a cardiac arrest. Although he had no known medical issues prior, he had been hit in the chest just moments before he fell unconscious. His heartbeat was restored with CPR, and on Jan. 7, he shared a statement thanking everyone for their support. «When you put real love out into the world it comes back to you 3x’s as much,» he wrote in an Instagram post. «If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger.»
