Peet reportedly met Benioff in 2002. The couple dated for three years before they announced their engagement in July 2005. Then, just a year after Benioff popped the question, he and Peet confirmed to People in September 2006 that they were expecting their first child together. Later that month, Peet revealed on the «Late Show With David Letterman» that she was four months pregnant. Also, that same September, news came out that the pair had tied the knot in New York City at Peet’s alma mater, Friends Seminary.
The actor gave birth to the couple’s first child — a girl named Frances Pen Friedman — in February 2007. That April, Peet opened up about how tiring motherhood had been and how her husband had supported her. «In the beginning, it’s very, very hard because you’re so sleep-deprived,» she said in an interview with People. «David’s letting me sleep right now — he’s actually doing the night-feeding. The hardest part is being so monumentally sleep-deprived.»
She also told the publication about her and her husband’s plans to continue expanding their family. «I think we want more. He wants three, but I’m old, I’m an old lady. Two is enough!» she said.
It seems Peet eventually changed her mind because she and Benioff welcomed a second daughter, Molly June Friedman, in April 2010, and their first and only son, Henry Peet Friedman, in December 2014. It’s worth noting all three children use David’s real last name rather than his professional name.
Since the couple are constantly working on different projects, they take turns caring for their three children whenever one of them is at work. For example, in a May 2020 interview with Variety, Peet told the publication that Benioff primarily looked after their kids when she was busy filming «The Betty Broderick Story.» «He became a very full-on parent during this period of time,» she said. «Since he had just come off nine years on ‘Game of Thrones,’ I think we both felt it was my turn!»
It’s been over two decades since the couple first got together, and although they keep their personal life primarily out of the spotlight, they have spoken about each other a few times publicly. In September 2016, Benioff gave a shoutout to his wife and kids while accepting the outstanding drama series award at the Emmys. «Amanda Peet, it’s our 10th anniversary in a week. 10 years of non-stop fun. I love you so much,» he said while Peet looked on from the audience. «Henry, Frankie, Molly, I love you three so much.»
A year after «Game of Thrones» aired its controversial finale in 2019, Peet defended her husband’s work during a June 2020 appearance on «Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen» (via E! News) by saying she «loved it» and continues to «stand by it.» «I feel like some people didn’t want to say goodbye. I don’t know,» she said. «Look, maybe I’m just too close to it, but I didn’t understand the blowback. For God’s sake, people, it’s a television show.»
So, what has the couple been up to since? You can catch Peet in the new Paramount+ miniseries «Fatal Attraction,» while Benioff is teaming up with his writing partner D.B. Weiss to pen the upcoming Netflix series «The Three-Body Problem.»
